With the stock market collapsing and Coronavirus fear spreading like wild fire, I have received a ton of email and website comments asking for an answer to one very specific question:
“I am still in the stock funds. I have lost a lot of money! Can you tell me what I should do?”
I answered this question in the Smart Reads post entitled “It Depends“. Since that post, the market has fallen another 20%, generating more urgency for a personalized answer. As I explain in the post, the answer to that question depends on your personal circumstances, risk tolerance, proximity to retirement, other investments, time horizon, etc… Fortunately, my schedule has freed up and I will be available for personalized TSP coaching going forward.

Hi Jerry, pls confirm & verify my new email address & ph # given to Coach w/ a cc to you last week as I continue to encounter tech issues w/ both????
In addition, many of us are locked in w/ prior reallocations due to the 2 IFT/month Rqmts. Unsure how you work around that issue if you’re w/in TSP. Any input for us between today & next week??

Hi Jerry, I may be interested, before commencing, pls expound on how to incorporate your recommendations per the weekly alerts if we are encumbered w/ 2 IFT /mon Rqmts? How do you “work-around” that issue, as many of us are locked for ex. to your earlier Feb/Mar “alerts?????”……….
James, I will take a look at your account and get you on email… The 2 IFTs per month rule is very difficult to navigate. We have no control of when the market will pop or fall thru an important support/resistance lever. Each move is tactical and you need to look a step or 2 ahead depending on the possibilities of market movement following each move. At the end of the day, it’s about managing risk within the context of your personal risk tolerance. You can’t work around it, you have to work with it…
